The first edition of the endurance race was run on May 26 and 27, 1923. The 47th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was marked by torrential rain for almost half of the event and was won by a private team, Porsche Kremer Racing, with the Porsche 935 K3 driven by German Klaus Ludwig and American Don Whittington and his brother Bill Whittington. Actor Paul Newman (2nd overall) and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason competed in this race. The 2026 race is scheduled to take place June 13-14, 2026.
